PASTOR'S COLUMN, SUNDAY, JUNE 9, 2019

Dear Family of St. Mary,

The Holy Spirit is on the move! As we celebrate the solemnity of Pentecost this Sunday, we are mindful of the Holy Spirit’s movement in the Church and in our lives as believers. The Holy Spirit has been working overtime in our parish and diocese in so many ways in these past few weeks!

I am very grateful for all of your well wishes and congratulations on my younger brother’s ordination. It was a great experience for me to concelebrate Mass with Fr. Dan, and to have the participation of so many of you at the Mass. I can’t describe what an emotional and spiritual moment it was for me to witness my brother enter into the same vocation as me. My family and I are truly blessed. Fr. Dan will serve as the parochial vicar at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Parma, and will begin his assignment this Tuesday.

Speaking of newly-ordained priests, we are honored to welcome back Fr. Marty Dober to St. Mary, as he celebrates the 10 am Mass. As most of you may remember, Fr. Marty served here as a seminarian intern from the fall of 2016 to the spring of 2017. He truly enjoyed his time here, and I know from so many of you how highly you thought of him as a candidate for the priesthood. The Church of Cleveland will be blessed by his ministry. He will be heading to St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor.

Our parish also has the privilege of welcoming two new members into the Catholic Church at the vigil Mass for Pentecost. Please join me in welcoming Kevin Kelley and Jeremy Starnes into the Catholic Church, and to our parish family! They will make twelve individuals who have been fully received into the Catholic Church through St. Mary Parish this year- we are blessed!

Another movement of the Spirit in our parish is Alpha. Alpha is a series designed to open individuals to faith in and relationship with Jesus Christ, in a friendly and non-judgmental environment. Anyone can benefit from being a part of this experience. If you know someone who doesn’t have a church, or who has questions about religion, faith and God, please invite them to Alpha, and join them there! It begins on June 24 at 7 pm, and continues through August 12, and dinner is included!

Come, Holy Spirit, and move powerfully among us!

                                           Peace,

                                                          Fr. Rich
