Principal Laura Marvin has brought a tremendous amount to St. Mary School

Beloved Family:

The following excerpt appeared as part of a longer article in the Daily Record on September 4, 2016.  The title read: “St. Mary School in Wooster Has New Principal”

It's easy to be swept away on the tide of enthusiasm as St. Mary School's new principal, Laura Marvin, talks about all that is new at the school, not to mention plans for the future.  She has already made a mark on the school, having spent many hours over the summer, along with other staff members, ushering in changes. "The staff here is amazing," she said, and many of them are new, although "you would not know that."

"Right now we're moving pretty quickly," said Marvin, whose most recent job was special education coordinator at St. Jude School in Elyria. "(We spent) a lot of time this summer to get up and running."

Getting this job was "kind of a fluke," she said, having heard about it because her mother is a member of St. Mary's Church. "I always say this was a calling," she said.

Along with working for Elyria City Schools as an intervention specialist for preschool, she has previously been employed as a special education supervisor for Sandusky City Schools.

With a bachelor's degree in special education and elementary education from Kent State University, a master's degree in early education of the handicapped child from Ashland University and an administrator's license, also from AU, she brings educational experience, but so much more, to her new job as principal.

Indeed, over the course of the last nine school years, Mrs. Marvin has brought a tremendous amount to St. Mary School.  As many in leadership, she was called to navigate faculty, students and their families through the COVID interruption.  Mrs. Marvin also has tapped many resources for education that have positioned us particularly to serve children who do better in a smaller school community.  I want to express deep gratitude for her dedication to this community.  While we completely understand that the summer will find her and husband, Dennis, spending time at Lake Erie, we look forward to seeing her remain active as a member of the parish.

The community will have an opportunity to salute Mrs. Marvin, on Wednesday, May 28.  Fr. David will celebrate the final school Mass of the year, at 8:30 am.  Following Mass, a reception will be hosted in the School Gym (Activity Center).

This is a very full and joyful weekend, for the Diocese of Cleveland overall, as well as for parishioners of Saint Mary specifically.  We anticipate that many will travel up to the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist in Cleveland, to join in the celebration of the priestly ordination of Deacon James Parisi and his seven classmates.  Additionally, his first Mass of Thanksgiving will be prayed on Sunday, May 18, at 2 pm at St. Hilary Church in Fairlawn.  We have provided streaming information for the ordination, on our website and through Flocknote.

On Monday, May 19, St. Mary officially welcomes Deacon Nathan Frankart.  Deacon Nathan hails from Amherst Ohio (St. Joseph Parish).  He will be with us full time over the summer, on weekends through the fall and then, we anticipate, full time once again beginning in January.  What a blessing it is, for us to be entrusted once again to accompany a young man in the final phase of formation prior to priestly ordination.

May His Peace by with you,

Fr. Stephen
